Devin Bowman, 33

National sales manager, Technical Glass Products, Snoqualmie, Wash.

Selling in the glass industry comes with its own set of challenges, says Bowman. “I wish I had known better the way the design/construction process works [when I first started]. You have all these different relationships with the building owner, architect, general contractor and glass contractor. That’s something you have to know pretty quickly. As a supplier, your goal is to get your product spec’d, but then you have to follow it through the whole construction phase.”

Bowman says being part of the glass industry means more than just a one-time sale; it’s about building recurring relationships. “You go to the events in the industry and everybody seems to know each other. People have worked at different companies and in different capacities so it’s about ongoing relationships.”

This long-lasting networking is a shift from his previous industry. “Glass is completely different than what I was used to selling software,” Bowman says.
