William Ikerd II, 33

Director, integrated project delivery department, Raymond L. Goodson Jr. Inc. Consulting Engineers, Dallas

Early in his career, as a mainframe structural engineer, Ikerd developed an appreciation for what he calls the “art and science” of designing glass systems. With a background in Building Information Modeling, he now works on 3D digital BIM strategies and implementation for engineering manufactured building components like glass systems. He continues to rely on his early intrigue to drive his work. “We as individuals have been designed with a miraculous collection of faculties that tell us a lot about all aspects of our work and business relationships. However, when we first start out in our careers, we too often devalue our own opinions and instincts of situations.”

Ikerd says it is an “amazing time” in the glass industry as the topic of BIM and Integrated Project Delivery emerge, and he expects strong business relationships will continue to drive this movement. “It’s a small world in glass, and it is relationships that will get you on projects. It seems that marketing hype, glossy flyers and fancy Web sites are not keys to a successful future in the glass industry, but rather relationships are key to being successful in the glass industry.”
