Slowdown in automotive industry reflects in the demand for auto glass in the OE (Original Equipment) segment. However, on a positive note, decreased growth of automotive industry is slightly offset by concentrated high demand for large vehicles such as minivans and pickup trucks and by increased usage of automotive glass per vehicle. In addition, there is slow but growing demand for safety and bulletproof specialty auto glass. Emerging automotive markets are expected to register higher growth rates, as against mature markets. Further, need for enhanced energy efficiency, increased security, safety and comfort have led to increased demand for value added auto glass. High enduring and high quality automotive glass continue to challenge the replacement market sales. However, aftermarket use of automotive glass is shrinking and is being replaced to a large extent by demand in Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) segment. This is mainly due to increase in glass durability that has led to reduced need for replacement, according to a Nov. 17 PR Newswire report.
