Alaska’s Alutiiq Center stands out with petroglyph-inspired glass wall

The basics: Designers of the Alutiiq Center in Anchorage transferred images of four ancient petroglyphs from their original stone carvings to a projecting glass wall at the entrance. The building, part of the Afognak Native Corp., opened in August 2006.
The players: Architect, Koonce Pheffer Bettis Inc., Anchorage; contract glazier, Alaska Glazing Inc., Anchorage; developer, Venture Development Group, Las Vegas; general contractor, Neeser Construction Inc., Anchorage.
The glass and systems: Twenty-four panes of laminated glass make up the point-supported structural glass wall that suspends from the building’s exterior. The wall features a petroglyph pattern.
