In advance of GlassBuild America: The Glass, Window & Door Expo, Sept. 12-14 in Atlanta, GlassMagazine.com will feature brief interviews with various people connected to the show.
This week, "Eye on GlassBuild" trains its sights on Rick Hamlin, executive vice president, Estimating & Design, for Trainor Glass Co. Not only will Rick be walking the floor in Atlanta, he also will be on the panel for the highly anticipated seminar, "Building Integrated Photovoltaics: It's Not the Future, It's the Now."
The solar market is still new to our industry in a lot of ways. What message and new information do you expect solar seminar attendees to take away from the educational session?
Rick Hamlin: The main questions that will be answered are:
- How can solar applications integrate into the contract glazier's business model?
- What are the important factors in promoting and selling solar products? And,
- Which segments of renewable and solar energy fit with the contract glazier, and which do not?
As for the show itself, can you remember how many editions of GlassBuild you've attended in your career? Any memories stand out?
RH: I have gone to about five, and because I tend to stay pretty busy, most of the show becomes a blur. The economic trends portion of the Glazing Executives Forum is the first thing that comes to mind for memories that stand out.
What excites you about this year's show? Is there anything specific you are looking forward to?
RH: The show is always great for meeting new people, reconnecting with friends and acquaintances in the industry, and seeing new trends or products that are coming for our industry. I always look forward to the Glazing Executives Forum. I always have taken away something I can use, or an idea I can implement from this meeting.
