Great Glazing: Morgan Library Study Cube at Colorado State University

The basics: Colorado State University presented a challenge to architectural firm Studiotrope: create a sleek, modern glass cube that served as a new student study space for its Morgan Library expansion and also achieved a minimum of LEED Silver accreditation. Architects for the Morgan Library Study Cube used dynamic glass on the West-facing wall of the glass cube to manage heat gain and glare issues, according to a SAGE Electrochromics release. The dynamic glass usage encompasses operable doors and windows on that Western façade and is zoned between upper and lower floors to allow selective tinting by embedded light sensors.

The players: Architect, Studiotrope; general contractor, Pinkard Construction; dynamic glass manufacturer, SAGE Electrochromics; glazing contractor, Horizon Glass.

The glass and systems: SageGlass for windows and doors, including 1 ½-inch triple-glazed insulating glass units for the window glass; doors with standard 1-inch IGUs. All systems are tempered.
