Great Glazing: UMB Bank Arizona
COMMERCIAL : SNAPSHOTS: GREAT GLAZING

The basics: To expand its presence in Phoenix, UMB Bank opted for a modern structure that features a uniquely shaped building envelope with an extensive installation of dynamic glass. The building pushes the limits of design, managing to be a net-zero energy building while meeting LEED Gold certification guidelines, according to a release from SAGE Electrochromics.
"We were looking for glass that could change from clear to dark to provide control of the sun and optimize daylight," said architect Kevin Harden of Gastinger Walker Harden + BeeTriplett Buck.
The players: Architect, Gastinger Walker Harden + BeeTriplett Buck; general contractor, J.E. Dunn; dynamic glass manufacturer, SAGE Electrochromics; glazing contractor, K.T. Fabrication Inc.
The glass and systems: The southwestern corner of the bank's main conference room features SageGlass dynamic glass that tints or clears electronically, on-demand or automatically, becoming darker or lighter to maximize daylight and control interior glare and heat gain. The electrochromic glass is used in conjunction with intelligent lighting controls and a highly efficient HVAC system, according to a release.
