Paisley-shaped glass countertop adds flare to private kitchen
RETAIL : SNAPSHOTS: GREAT GLAZING

"We have done many countertops in glass with supports, but this was especially challenging in that we needed to develop the shape as well as find supports that could carry the weight and preserve the clean look they desired."—Dave Kanne, salesperson, Minneapolis Glass Co.
The basics: A homeowner in Maple Grove, Minn., wanted a custom glass, functional countertop to complement the overall kitchen design. "[The customer] loves paisleys and came up with the idea to use glass in that shape. She brought us a rough sketch of what she desired, and we refined it from there," Kanne said. The project was completed in May 2010.
The players: Glass fabricator, installer, designer, Minneapolis Glass Co., Plymouth, Minn.
The glass and systems: ¾-inch low-iron glass, cut and polished using automated machinery. The edge is a flat polish. Overall size is 72 inches by 42 inches. Minneapolis Glass Co. drilled holes for chrome caps that fit into custom-designed mounting brackets made in an aluminum finish.
