The 2012 Passat windshield was not exactly an FW3419 as listed in NAGS. We had to order the glass from the dealer and received a windshield with a lower retainer for the cowl panel and a bracket for the mirror and light sensor. The light sensor looks like a rain sensor but the vehicle’s sticker lists only a light sensor. The FW3419 is listed as acoustical with a molding. In reality, it is...

The top and side molding is rigid and difficult to remove or even cut off. We were lucky and had a very warm day to work on the vehicle. We used a pry tool to firmly push the molding toward the A pillar while forcing up the lower corner on the passenger side. Once we got it started, it still took two technicians to pull the molding out from under the glass edge. Make sure to heat the new OEM...

The A-pillar molding on this vehicle extends from the fender to the back glass and is clipped down with a two-clip system: one clip attached to the body and one inserted into the molding. There are two ways to release the molding from the vehicle: pry out the molding clip from the body clip, or slide the molding from the clips. The latter method might prevent damage to the clips.

There is plenty of room to use a cold knife to cut out the windshield on this vehicle; however, due to the U-shaped molding, it is recommended that a power tool not be used for interior cutout.
