ENR’s Top 600 Specialty Contractors Report Increased Revenue, Cautious Outlook
Some specialty contractors and subcontractors, including glazing subcontractors, are nervous about how the markets and their businesses will fare given the current state of Congress and the economy, according to an Oct. 14 Engineering News-Record report. Despite all that, however, ENR's 2013 Top 600 Specialty Contractors list tracks signs of a market turnaround for many large firms. The Top 600 cleared revenue of $81.33 billion in 2012, up 12.7 percent from $72.14 billion in 2011, according to the report.
"Our specialty trade of curtain-wall contractors saw an impact during the downturn in our industry as [several of those large] contractors exited the market," said Brad Austin, president of Harmon, according to the report. He says this shakeout has increased opportunities for firms that are still in the market, but anticipates more onerous contractual provisions on projects going forward, according to the report.
