Kawneer to feature new products, expo education programs at AIA
Kawneer Co., Norcross, Ga., will return to the AIA National Convention and Design Expo in Miami, June 10-12, with a range of products and services, according to a May 26 release. Highlights of this year’s expo appearance include Kawneer’s new Steel Framing Systems from Forster; its recently introduced AA3350 ISOPORT Window; and, the continuation of Kawneer’s AIA-registered Expo Education Programs.
Historically, Kawneer is known for its comprehensive line of architectural aluminum building products and solutions. As a result of a recently announced partnership agreement with Forster Profile Systems, Kawneer now offers architects access to the most complete interior and exterior steel and stainless steel framing systems for fire-rated and non-rated applications. By aligning steel framing systems with Kawneer’s aluminum capabilities, the company is better equipped to meet the demands of architects who want to design for more monumental elevations. Throughout AIA, Kawneer will display its new Forster fuego light door in the Forster thermfix vario curtain wall. Offering strong architectural appeal and available in multiple sizes and finishes, these systems provide fire protection and a barrier to radiant heat, according to the release.
Kawneer also will display a full-sized model of its recently introduced AA 3350 ISOPORT Window, designed to enhance the views and energy efficiency of any commercial and institutional application. Available in single-hung, double-hung or fixed units with an innovative polyamide thermal break design and factory glazing, the AA 3350 ISOPORT Window is highly versatile, leading the way in thermal performance at a competitive price. Integrated extruded lift rails eliminate the need for surface-applied hardware, making sight lines sleek and appealing.
Kawneer’s popular AIA-registered Expo Education programs will be offered within the exhibit’s dedicated learning center (booth #2271). The 15-minute programs provide a convenient format for architect education and the opportunity for hands-on product interaction and live conversations with product experts. Several sessions will be offered daily and can qualify toward AIA learning units. Programs include:
Preventable Curtain Wall Field Failures: Attendees will learn the value of requiring installation instructions as part of a submittal package. Proper installation supervision and knowledge of how a curtain wall is fabricated and installed can prevent costly field repair and damage to building interiors. June 10: 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m.; June 11: 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m.; June 12: 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m.
Steel Curtain Walls: Design & Capabilities: This program will examine steel curtain wall capabilities and design options including increased structural capacity, fire protection and defense against radiant heat. Furthermore, the session will discuss specific structural conditions, especially life safety issues, when steel solutions are preferred for their ability to exceed the capability of aluminum. June 10: 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m.; June 11: 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m.; June 12: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m.
Utilization of Shading Options in Division 8 Glass and Glazing: How to harvest daylight and minimize solar heat gain is a critical part of designing today’s energy efficient buildings. Attendees will discover how shading with Division 8 products can play a major role. June 10: 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m.; June 11: 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m.; June 12: 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m.)
The Kawneer booth will include the company’s array of high-performance products with experts available to answer questions and provide technical information. The exhibit will showcase five product focus areas: Unitized Solutions, Thermal Design, Protective Glazing/Hurricane Resistant, Steel Framing Systems and Green Design, according to the release.
