PGT Industries, North Venice, Fla., one of the nation's leading providers of custom windows and doors, and the nation's leading supplier of residential impact-resistant windows and doors, has received the U.S. Department of Energy energy saver award for achieving more than 7.5 percent total energy savings.

"PGT is committed to driving down the energy consumption in our manufacturing facilities," said Rod Hershberger, PGT president and CEO. "Today's economy demands energy efficiency and lower costs to stay competitive. We want to use less energy and we want to help consumers cut their energy consumption. PGT recently developed the first impact-resistant windows having a U-factor of less than 0.22, thus satisfying the requirements of the Department of Energy R-5 program," according to a July 28 Market Watch report.
