Viracon introduces new Web site
Redesigned Viracon.com offers new look, new tools for design community
Viracon, the country’s leading single-source architectural glass fabricator, has introduced a new website. The new www.viracon.com offers new tools and features designed to make it easier than ever for architects, designers and glazing contractors to browse, find and store glass product information.
“Based on customer feedback and usage patterns, we strived to make the new site much more visual and easier to navigate,” says Christine Shaffer, marketing manger at Viracon. “We’ve also added new tools that make it easier for customers to find and store ideas and information for their projects.”
A new My Viracon feature allows customers to log on and create folders to store product information for particular projects. Customers may contact their Viracon representative to establish a username and password, and then create multiple folders to store information by project. In the coming months, Viracon will be continually expanding My Viracon features to include new tools and capabilities.
Also new is an enhanced means of searching for performance data. With the large number of coating, substrate and glass configuration options Viracon offers, the company has more than 4,000 lines of performance data on the website, just a representation to the endless number of custom configurations the company can provide. A new search tool allows visitors to begin with a broad search, such as “insulating glass.” Then, visitors can quickly narrow the search based on desired coatings, performance values or enhanced features to find just the right product.
Viracon’s popular GoogleMaps feature has also been expanded. The unique mapping feature allows visitors to search for projects by geographic location. A Google map not only shows where each project is located, but also includes Viracon product information along with project facts and a photo, when available. This tool gives clients information to actually go see Viracon products installed in a building when making their specification decisions.
When Viracon introduced the GoogleMaps feature a year ago, there were 400 projects included. The newly redesigned site features more than 1,000 – and counting. “We received a tremendous reaction to the feature from the design community, so we’ve expanded it with the launch of the new website and will continually add to this feature in the future,” says Shaffer.
In general, the new site focuses on easier navigation and more visual content. Links to common destinations within Viracon.com are featured prominently on the homepage, making it easier for visitors to find content with fewer clicks. Less text and more images simplify the look and lead to a more pleasant browsing experience. Content has also been formatted to work with new wider monitor widths and new browsers.
Job seekers will enjoy an expanded Viracon career section. With a link on the homepage, the career section makes it easy to search job openings and learn more about employment with Viracon.
“We’re excited for people to visit the new site and explore the new tools, and we encourage people to check back for even more new features in the coming months,” says Shaffer. In the next phases, Viracon will be adding enhancements, including expanding the My Viracon tool, adding GoogleMaps projects and introducing new tool capabilities such as a WAP format that allows customers to browse the site easily on handheld devices.
