Acoustic interlayer

Saflex, a unit of Solutia, St. Louis, introduced the Saflex Q Series advanced acoustic interlayer. The lightweight, cost-effective product reduces noise by up to 6 decibels in the human-voice recognition sound range, according to a release. The interlayer combines three Saflex interlayers: one layer of an acoustic PVB sandwiched between two layers of traditional PVB, which are then laminated between two sheets of glass. The Saflex Q Series is suitable for use in all vehicle glass applications, company officials state, and enables OEMs to reduce the glass thickness of the windshield, saving up to 4 pounds.
