Infrared reflective windshield
Officials at PPG Industries, Pittsburgh, claim vehicles equipped with the company's Sungate infrared reflective windshield save owners up to $66 per year in fuel costs. PPG testing showed that Sungate windshields reflect about 50 percent of the sun's infrared energy, potentially reducing air-conditioning use by up to 20 percent, according to a release. "Because the air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard, fuel efficiency increases and emissions are reduced," explained Mukesh Rustagi, global product manager, in the release.
