Fire-rated ceramic glass

Technical Glass Products, Snoqualmie, Wash., introduced FireLite ceramic glass with ultraHD Technology for high-end, fire-protective design applications. The technology improves the overall optical quality of each glazed lite, expanding options for design professionals who do not want to compromise color and clarity when using glazing to meet fire-safety codes, according to a release.
The new manufacturing process reduces slight imperfections that can result during glass production, creating a smoother viewing surface. It also reduces the visible color in transparent glass ceramic, which otherwise has a slight earth tone compared to the blue-green tint of typical float glass. The end result is superior fire-rated glazing that closely resembles ordinary window glass, company officials say.
FireLite products with ultraHD Technology have high visible light transmission of approximately 88 percent and low reflectivity of approximately 9 percent. All FireLite products use the new technology, including FireLite, FireLite Plus, FireLite NT and FireLite IGU, and are available in two different surface conditions to meet specific design needs: premium grade (polished on both surfaces) and standard grade.
FireLite ceramic glass is available with fire ratings from 20 minutes to three hours to protect against the spread of flames and smoke. It is also available with impact-safety ratings. All products pass the hose stream test and are UL listed and labeled, according to a release.
