Glass floor system

Technical Glass Products, Snoqualmie, Wash., introduced Fireframes ClearFloor, an advanced glass floor system that is impact-resistant and fire-rated for two hours. The system can be used as a durable, non-slip walking surface, and is approved for loads up to 150 psf, according to a release. Available for both interior and exterior applications, the product is listed by Underwriters Laboratories.
Fireframes ClearFloor allows glazing in spaces that previously would have required alternative opaque fire-stopping materials like concrete and corrugated steel. Architects and designers can use the system to bring daylight deep into building interiors, and to create dramatic visual effects between different building levels. Potential applications include universities, department stores, hotels, restaurants and corporate offices.
The custom-built system consists of two-hour fire-rated Pilkington Pyrostop heat barrier glass; a tempered, laminated walking surface glass; and a steel framing grid. TGP developed the modular system to enable design creativity and easy replacement of individual walking surface panels in case of impact breakage. Fireframes ClearFloor also allows for decorative color frits and sandblasted glass. Available glass panel sizes are approximately 48-inch-by-50-inch.
