Kawneer Co., Norcross, Ga., introduced the IR501 UT (Ultra Thermal) framing system to meet increasingly stringent energy and impact building codes. Designed and engineered for single span storefronts, the IR 501UT framing system is an enhancement to the company's IR500/501 platform, providing a solution to the growing need for hurricane-resistant products in the East and Gulf Coast states. The system employs a dual IsoLock thermal break, helping improve thermal performance, without compromising structural performance and impact resistance, according to a company release. The system is available with screw spline construction and a center-aligned glass plane, and allows for exterior glazing. IR 501UT framing features a high performance sill design and a slip fit vertical mullion filler design. The system has a 5-inch framing depth and a 2 3/4-inch sightline.
