Optical interlayer

Argotec Inc. of Greenfield, Mass., developed a transparent extruded polyurethane optical interlayer for bullet-, blast-, impact-, and hurricane-resistant glass. A thin sheet of aliphatic-grade thermoplastic polyurethane film, the interlayer bonds multiple layers of glass, polycarbonate or other clear substrates, resulting in a strong glass composite that can absorb powerful shock or impact including high-velocity, large-caliber projectiles, according to a company release. The composites can be used in commercial, military, government, automotive and residential glazing installations such as banks, correctional facilities, government embassies, retail store fronts, armored vehicles, and hurricane-resistant and anti-vandal glazing.
