Structural silicone adhesive

Dow Corning released a transparent structural silicone adhesive that can be used to attach insulating glass units to point-fixed hardware, allowing for a frameless glass facade. The TSSA combines high transparency, strong adhesion, thermal stability and weatherability, all of which are key to improving a building’s lifespan and efficiency, according to company officials. The structural glazed façade technology also allows for construction with larger, more efficient windows, enabling thermal insulation and increased daylight. One of the major performance benefits of TSSA is the elimination of drilling, according to Massimo Rebolini, EMEA commercial manager for Dow Corning. “This reduces the energy necessary for production, but prevents gas leakage, which is a problem with gas-filled IGUs in traditional pointsupported applications,” he says. The TSSA also eliminates thermal bridge/ heat transfer, according to the supplier.
