Officials from VDMA, Verband Deutscher Maschinen - und Anlagenbau - German Engineering Federation, announced that Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH and Lenhardt Maschinenbau GmbH will introduce a thin film solar module free of laminate. Building-integrated photovoltaic with this thin film technology produces energy and can be part of multifunctional glass and systems used in facades, roofing and dressing, combined with functions such as heat and sun protection, safety and noise protection, guiding of light and shadowing, as well as design. Limits to size, color and shape of the modules are few, according to a news release. Laminating--in which the solar cells, embedded in thin synthetic foil, need to be merged with the pane--is no longer required with the new technology, neither is a window frame. The space required for a production line is reduced since the modules are transported vertically between different production phases. VDMA represents 3,000 member companies in the engineering industry.
