Vacuum insulating glass unit

Pilkington North America, Toledo, member of Japan's NSG Group's Flat Glass Business, introduced Spacia, a sealed vacuum insulating glass unit, to the North American market. The unit provides twice the thermal insulation of a conventional insulating glass unit and four times the insulation of single-pane glass, according to a company release. It uses low-E glass in a .24-inch profile, has a .008-inch vacuum space and can have a center-of-glass U-value as low as 0.2 Btu/hr.sqft.¼F, according to the release.
