Sharp Glass Achieves NACC Certification

Sharp Glass LLC of San Antonio, Texas, is the latest glazing contractor to meet the requirements for certification by the North American Contractor Certification Program for glazing contractors. The NACC is the glazing industry’s only third-party, ANSI accredited recognition of glazing contractors who consistently adhere to program requirements for quality and safety excellence.

FGIA Updates Fenestration Sealants Guide

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance updated a technical document intended to aid in the selection, use and application of sealants commonly used in fenestration systems. AAMA 851, "Fenestration Sealants Guide for Windows, Window Walls and Curtain Walls," an FGIA standard, is the first update to this document, originally published in 2009.

Construction Starts Lose Ground in July

Total construction starts fell 7 percent in July to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $631.6 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. The decline was due to a significant pullback in the nonbuilding segment, which fell 31 percent from June to July. Nonresidential building starts rose 3 percent.

City of Madison Passes Bird-Safe Glass Ordinance

The Madison Common Council unanimously adopted the state's first bird-friendly building ordinance. Introduced by Alders Marsha Rummel and Keith Furman, drafted by City staff, and revised with input from American Bird Conservancy, the city-wide ordinance will require new large construction and expansion projects to use modern bird-safe strategies and materials that allow birds to see glass, according to ABC.
