CLiC Privacy Glass Enters High-Volume Manufacturing

Following more than a decade of R&D and a manufacturing line addition to its plant in Tomah, Wisconsin, Cardinal Glass Industries has launched full-scale production of CLiC On-Demand Privacy Glass. This monolithic and insulating glass delivers enhanced performance and modern aesthetics, offering haze-free clarity and instant privacy in sizes ranging from 1.8 to 50 square feet.

As a switchable glass that leverages advanced polymer-stabilized cholesteric texture (PSCT) technology, CLiC changes modes instantly and incorporates minimal polymer and no films to offer either clarity from any angle or translucent privacy exactly when needed. CLiC keeps interiors open and connected, delivered through a durable solution designed to withstand the elements and protect homes, buildings and everything inside.

“CLiC is a long-term investment in our customers and partners,” says Pete Whaley, technical sales and marketing manager at Cardinal. “We’ve created a premier ingredient brand that manufacturers can easily integrate into their products to deliver cutting-edge capabilities to architects, builders and designers. Backed by a multi-million-dollar national ad campaign that is driving homeowners and professionals to ask for CLiC by name, Cardinal is committed to ensuring our entire ecosystem succeeds together as smart glass adoption continues to grow.”

Product details

CLiC glass switches from clear to private in under 100 milliseconds and integrates with smart home technology. It blends alongside traditional windows in clear state while keeping spaces bright in either mode. In addition, its double-laminated construction offers sound insulation, UV fading protection and structural security against storms or forced entry.

CLiC consumes less than 1/3 of a watt per square foot in clear mode, comparable to a small LED light. When private, CLiC requires no electricity whatsoever.

CLiC is a solution for spaces where sightlines, light infiltration and on-demand privacy must all be options. In healthcare, it replaces curtains and blinds with patient controlled privacy. In workplaces, it balances light harvesting with on-demand seclusion. In hotel rooms, it extends daylight into traditionally windowless areas like bathrooms by allowing light to pass through partition walls in private mode, reducing reliance on artificial light.

“Switchable glass isn’t new, but CLiC completely redefines the technology and deserves a fresh look
even from those familiar with the concept,” Whaley says. “We took our time to get this exactly right,
and now we’re excited to bring a truly world-class product to market at scale. You might have seen
on-demand privacy glass before, but you haven’t seen it like this.”
