AGC Sets Reduction Target for Scope 3 GHG Emissions

AGC, parent company of AGC Glass, set a new target for reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions in its value chain. AGC aims to achieve a 30 percent reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions in 2030. AGC has also applied for SBT certification by the international climate change initiative, Science Based Targets initiative.

The AGC Group identified the promotion of sustainability management as one of its key strategies in its medium-term management plan AGC plus-2023, which was announced in February 2021. To achieve a sustainable global environment, AGC has set interim targets of a 30 percent reduction in GHG emissions and a 50 percent reduction in GHG emissions per unit of sales in Scope 1 and Scope 2 for 2030 as milestones toward its goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions in 2050.

In addition to these, a new Scope 3 emissions reduction target has now been set. Within Scope 3, it is becoming increasingly important to work on reducing GHG emissions at the use and end-of-life treatment stages of a company's products in the value chain. The AGC Group will focus on promoting the AMOLEATM series of next-generation refrigerants and solvents with extremely low global warming potential.

The Group will also work to achieve its Scope 3 targets by strengthening supplier engagement activities.

The AGC Group will realize its Vision 2030 through portfolio transformation and the pursuit of sustainability management and contribute to the realization of a sustainable global environment through the creation of social and economic value.
