National manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems, headquartered in New York City, was recently recognized by business publication Crain’s New York Business as one of the 25 Largest Minority-Owned Firms in the New York metro area. This year Crystal was ranked 5th on the annual list of minority firms.
About Crystal and company response
The Crain’s New York Business list is based on total aggregate national sales revenues for minority-owned firms, their subsidiaries, and affiliates that are based in the New York metro area. Headquartered in New York City, Crystal Windows distributes fenestration products across the country and in Canada, with operations, subsidiaries, and affiliates in California, Illinois, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Texas, Ohio, and Toronto, Ontario, with over 750 employees. The manufacturer is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year.
“To reach number five on this year’s Crain’s list of the largest minority-owned firms in the tremendously diverse business environment here in the New York area is no small achievement,” says Jeffrey Smith, CEO. “It is a testament to Crystal Chairman and founder Thomas Chen, a Taiwanese American immigrant who, with great vision, drive, and an excellent workforce, has made Crystal the success it is today.”
The list
The leading minority-owned firms on the Crain’s list this year include Goya Foods (food processing and distribution) and Sigma Plastics Group (flexible wrapping). Crystal Windows is one of only three manufacturers listed, and the only manufacturer located in New York City or State. Indicative of the strong construction climate in New York, 56% of the companies listed serve the construction industry with labor, products, and engineering services.
“New York continues to be a terrific place for businesses to thrive,” says Crystal Chairman Thomas Chen. “Crystal has grown steadily here because of the available workforce, the proximity to markets, and the logistics infrastructure that enable our products to be fabricated in the US and moved all around the country.”
