Fire-Rated Glazing Assemblies Modernize Academic and Social Hub

Designed to foster collaboration, study, and community, the Alan Magee Scaife Hall at the University of Pittsburgh features open, light-filled spaces—even in transitional areas like stairwells. To support this vision, the design team selected the Fireframes ClearView® System which incorporates butt-glazed Pilkington Pyrostop® fire-rated transparent wall panels with a Fireframes® Heat Barrier Series perimeter frame.  The result? A visually connected environment with enhanced daylighting and transparency, all while meeting stringent fire and life safety codes.

At Costco’s new 624,000-sq.-ft. Building 4 in Issaquah, WA, expansive glazing defines the open, collaborative environment. To meet code without sacrificing visibility, designers turned to Fireframes® Curtainwall Series and Fireframes® Designer Series full-lite doors with Pilkington Pyrostop®  fire-rated glass. Installed on Levels 1 and 9 of each main stairwell, these assemblies provide up to 120 minutes of fire protection while preserving openness. The slim steel profiles match adjacent non-rated systems for seamless visual flow, enhancing sightlines and wayfinding. TGP’s fire-rated solutions allow form and function to coexist—ensuring safety without compromising design.

SuperClear 45-HS-LI by SAFTI FIRST

ADVERTISEMENT SAFTI FIRST’s SuperClear 45-HS-LI (hose stream low-iron) is a new, economical, patent-pending 45 minute glazing product that replaces unsafe wire glass and expensive ceramics, considered obsolete by SAFTI FIRST, in all 45 minute applications. Proudly USA-made, it is listed by both UL and Intertek, and meets NFPA 252, NFPA 257, UL 9 and UL 10C for fire and CPSC Cat. II (400 ft. lbs.) for safety.  It does not have any wires or amber tints, making it the only true CLEAR SOLUTION for 45 minute doors, sidelites, transoms and openings.  It does not need any films or laminates to meet impact safety requirements.  SuperClear 45-HS-LI is a durable product that is more likely to survive an impact compared to filmed or laminated ceramics, which means lower replacement costs over time.  All of these benefits at more affordable price than filmed or laminated ceramics used in the same application.
