Cardinal Glass Industries to Launch New Bird-Friendly Glass
Cardinal Glass Industries today announced Divert bird-friendly glass, set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The solution is fully integrated into the Cardinal coated glass portfolio and eliminates the need for films, interlayers, acid etching, and UV-only coatings, say company officials.
About Divert
Using precision laser-etching, Divert creates first-surface patterns that are visible to birds but barely noticeable to people, according to the company, with tightly controlled dot size, spacing, and pattern geometry that comply with bird-friendly standards. Because the pattern is physically etched and not applied, Divert maintains lasting performance through manufacturing, handling, and years of exposure to the elements without peeling, fading, or delaminating.
The glass also comes standard with Cardinal’s Neat+ coating, which uses sunlight to help the glass stay naturally cleaner for longer. With no need for lamination, the glass can be specified in either an annealed or temperable option, say officials.
What people are saying
“First-surface solutions are widely recognized as the most effective for reducing bird collisions, so that’s where we began,” says Jordan Lagerman, R&D technical services manager at Cardinal. “With the deterrence pattern designated to surface one, surface two remains open for any Cardinal LoE coating, maintaining both design and performance flexibility.”
“Builders, architects, and homeowners often view code compliance as a design or performance constraint,” says John Glynn, Cardinal’s director of technology marketing. “With our enhanced bird-friendly glass, meeting standards no longer means compromise. Homes and offices can meet the code and reduce collisions while also preserving clear views, solar control, and energy efficiency.”
