John Kent Named the 2025 C.G. Carney Award Recipient from the National Glass Association

John Kent receives C.G. Carney Award from Urmilla SowellDuring the NGA Glass Conference: Ann Arbor, held Sept. 30-Oct. 2, the National Glass Association presented its highest honor, the C.G. Carney Award, to longtime industry leader, John Kent, president of Administrative Management Systems Inc. The award is named after C. Gregory Carney, who served as the Glass Association of North America’s Technical Director for more than two decades.

“The C. Gregory Carney award is the highest honor the association has to offer. … This award is for an individual dedicated to advancing glass, promoting and advocating for our industry while demonstrating the association’s mission and values within the industry: doing what is right for the industry as a whole,” said Urmilla Sowell, NGA’s vice president of advocacy and technical, during the award presentation.

“Greg Carney personally introduced me to this year’s award recipient describing him as a passionate advocate for the glass community and those who use our glass products. He has helped develop and advance many industry standards, best practices, and certifications programs within ANSI, ASTM, GANA, SIGMA, IGMA,” Sowell continued.

“This year’s recipient is one of the most dependable people in the glass and glazing industry. He started his career much like I did, in a laboratory, and has served our industry for more than three decades. He is very good at seeking improvements for accountability within the industry. He is not afraid to shake things up to make things better, more efficient or more effective,” Sowell said.

In accepting the award, Kent turned the recognition back to the attendees in the room. “I’m a huge fan of trade associations and of the work that this group has been doing in the 30+ years that I’ve been coming to these events. The association world is the embodiment, the ultimate manifestation of a rising tide lifts all ships,” he said. “You make the industry better. You make the built environment better. You make the building industry better by collaborating.”
