Walker Introduces New HPD for Mirrors

Walker Glass continues its commitment to sustainable and transparent manufacturing with new Health Product Declarations for its mirror product lines.

Walker is the first manufacturing in North America to hold HPD on clear, low-iron and acid-etched mirror. These products already promote human well being by optimizing the flow of light through interiors. It is a natural next step to add HPD documentation to the list of benefits that these products offer, according to Walker officials.

These documents give architects and fabricators clear insights into the components involved in Walker’s mirror manufacturing process and any potential effects on human health. This information can help building professionals make safe, informed decisions about the materials they select for their upcoming projects.

The documents are prepared according to the Health Product Declaration Collaborative’s open standards and third-party verified by Vertima, experts in sustainable and LEED certified building practices.

“Architects really appreciate the benefits that you can get with acid-etched mirror, like muting reflectivity to create a more comfortable environment. Having HPD on these products gives them another tool to design in a safe and responsible way,” said Marc Deschamps, director of products and business development.

The new HPD complement several HPD and Environmental Product Declarations already awarded to Walker’s glass products. These documents are available for Walker Textures full surface acid-etched glass and AviProtek bird safe glass options. EPD are also available for Walker’s mirror product lines.

Under the LEED v4 program, both EPD and HPD can help projects to earn points in the Materials and Resources category for Building Product Disclosure and Optimization. The declarations can also contribute to other green building evaluation systems such as WELL, Green Globes and BREEAM. With both HPD and EPD in place, Walker Glass is the sustainable choice for any eco-conscious developer.

“The values represented by HPD documentation align with Walker’s values related to sustainable development and transparency,” said Charles Alexander, vice president of sales and marketing. “As the North American leader in acid etch, bird friendly and mirror products, we feel it is our responsibility to develop and market products that meet or surpass industry standards and lead the pack when it comes to initiatives related to protecting the environment.”
