NSG Group announced that it has introduced Pilkington Mirai Øne, a new architectural float glass offering over 35% less embodied carbon compared to its standard float glass, aimed at supporting lower-impact material choices in the built environment. It forms part of the Group's wider sustainability commitments, including investments in alternative fuel trials, carbon capture technology to reduce furnace emissions, and recycling initiatives under the makechange™ platform.
Pilkington Mirai Øne is designed to help reduce carbon emissions while meeting the criteria for a wide range of specifications. It provides a lower-carbon option within familiar float glass parameters with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), verified by an independent third party currently in preparation.
Achieved by increasing the use of recycled content, thereby reducing reliance on virgin raw materials, alongside other decarbonization measures outlined in their roadmap and when coated, laminated, or further processed, the glass delivers the same standards of aesthetics, quality, and performance as conventional float glass.
