The FHC Hydraulic Series Shower Hinge delivers hydraulic closing performance within a standard hinge design. It seamlessly integrates advanced damping technology, which is a technology that absorbs vibrational energy, providing stability and control—preserving clean frameless aesthetics while enhancing functionality, say company officials. By balancing performance, ease of installation, and design, it allows glaziers to install with confidence using a system they already know, while delivering a smooth, controlled user experience.
Its key innovation is the integration of true hydraulic damping technology into a traditional hinge footprint, eliminating the need for bulky external closers. The hinge holds the door open from 70 degrees to 90 degrees, then initiates a two-stage closing sequence: spring-assisted return from about 70 degrees to 30 degrees, followed by smooth hydraulic closure from 30 degrees to fully closed—ensuring quiet, safe, and precise operation.
Product development was spearheaded by FHC Shower Hardware Brand Manager Danny Donahue. Donahue also chairs the National Glass Association’s Frameless Shower Installation committee which is tasked with developing best standards and practices for the design and installation of frameless shower enclosures. The goal in designing this new system was developing a hinge that offered smooth, hydraulic self-closing functionality while retaining traditional hinge sizes, glass cutouts, and installation methods. FHC’s in-house testing lab enabled the team to design, test, iterate and retest; the final product is tested to over 100,000 cycles.
