Jerry Haber, one of the founders of W&W Glass, LLC, died on September 6, 2026, at the age of 85.
Jerry's career in the glass industry began in 1963, at 21 years old. He was thrust into the business following the untimely death of his father, William Haber, founder of Haber and Henry Glass and Metal, Inc. Jerry stepped in to lead both his family and the company, guiding it to a successful and stable livelihood.
Following the New York City recession of the early 1970s, Haber and Henry was sold to a public company, which ultimately did not survive changing market conditions. Undeterred, Jerry and his brother, Ron Haber, struck out on their own in 1978. With a small loan from a local bank, the brothers founded W&W Glass, operating out of an airplane hangar at a small local airstrip with a single employee, a 500-square-foot office, and a 20-foot shipping container for inventory and supplies.
W&W Glass grew into one of the largest glazing contractors in the United States and one of the largest NYC-based glazing specialty subcontractor in the industry. Today, the company is employee-owned and led by the next generation of the Haber family — Jerry's sons Michael, Jeffrey, and Scott, alongside Ron's son Howard.
Beyond his own company's success, Jerry was a steadfast champion of union labor throughout his career. He was a strong supporter of union glazing, serving as a trustee for the Glaziers Pension Fund and sitting on the board of the Finishing Contractors Association, among other union-related roles. Even after retirement, he remained actively involved with District Council 9, the National Pension, and Glaziers Local 1087.
In a LinkedIn post, W&W glass officials state, "We look forward to carrying on his legacy for many years to come."
